Possible Woman Foundation International (PWFI) is pleased to recognize the outstanding women who are the 2016 PWFI scholars and recipients of the 2016 scholarships provided by the foundation for women in non-traditional fields of study.
“The Annual Possible Woman Leadership Conference, featuring dynamic speakers each spring in Atlanta, inspires women from all walks of life and helps fund these annual scholarships” said Linda Wind, organizer of the conference and founder of the foundation.
The 2016 PWFI scholars are:
Zara Albright
Zara is a first year student at Georgia Tech studying International Affairs and Modern Languages with a concentration in Spanish. She enjoys learning about and immersing herself in other cultures, and will be studying in Valencia, Spain over the summer. After graduation, she hopes to teach abroad through the Peace Corps. Zara enjoys both drawing and painting and has a strong interest in education policy.
Sidney Brinson
Sidney, an Industrial Design graduate student at Georgia Tech, lived in Singapore last summer researching haze for her Master’s project to design a child-sized N95 mask. Formerly a 3d animator who worked at Turner for 8 years, she quit to study Industrial Design to use her problem solving skills to design solutions that improve people’s lives. She is passionate about environmental, socio-economic, and humanitarian issues and plans to start her own design firm.
Nykia Burke
Nykia is a third-year medical student at Morehouse School of Medicine, passionate about women’s and adolescent health. She has completed both an MPH and MS in biomedical sciences, and dedicated over 4 years to building Safe Routes to School programs in more than 150 Metro Atlanta and South Georgia schools. As an NMF- Primary Care Leadership Program Scholar she spent a summer developing resources to promote women’s health services in Nashville. Following graduation, she plans to complete residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology so that she can care for Georgia’s underserved women and adolescents.
Emily Doherty
Emily is a Building Construction Graduate Student at Georgia Tech, with a focus in Integrated Project Delivery Systems. She is passionate about travelling and has worked abroad in both London and Toronto. She enjoys working in such a dynamic industry where there is always something new to learn. Upon completing her degree, she intends to work for a General Contractor.
Andrea Puccini
Andrea is a 1st year graduate student at Georgia Tech studying Building Construction with a concentration in Program Management. Born in Colombia but raised in the US, Andrea is fully fluent in Spanish and retains close ties to her Colombian heritage. Upon graduating, she intends to join one of the top real estate development firms as a Program Manager to deliver projects successfully on time and budget. One of her future goals is to work internationally in real estate development and city planning where she can apply her experience to enrich emerging cities.
Edna Reid
Edna was born in Mandeville, Jamaica and lived there for the first twelve years of her life. She is currently pursuing a career in nursing. She developed a love for running track when she was in Jamaica, and running is still something she loves to do. She also enjoys reading, working out, listening to music, watching movies and doing outdoor activities, especially hiking. Edna loves meeting new people and spending time with family and friends. Edna is receiving the Emily B. Grigsby scholarship.
Bridgett Tiller
A sophomore at the Brenau University Women’s College, Bridgett’s major is conflict resolution and legal studies. Coming to Brenau as a vanguard scholar, she is also part of the Her Campus writing team, vice president of the Brenau Mediation team and a member of the photography club. Bridgett has a one-year-old son, who is a joy to be around and leaves no room for boredom. She is an extrovert, believes in the good in people and is always willing to help someone in need. Bridgett intends to become a family lawyer, and one day own her own fortune five hundred company. Bridgett is receiving the Nokia Women’s Leadership Network/StrongHer Scholarship.
Maria Wong
Maria is a third year Industrial Design major at the Georgia Institute of Technology. After completing her studies, she wants to pursue a Master’s degree and then return to her home country, Panama, to expand the field of design, especially in healthcare-related areas. Maria comes from a family of mixed cultures and is a champion for diversity on campus. She has been elected President of the Georgia Tech International Ambassadors for the 2016-2017 period.
Jamie Zheng
Jamie, a second year student studying Conflict Resolution and Legal Studies at Brenau University, is also pursuing a certificate in Women’s Leadership. Upon completing her degree, Jamie will continue on to law school. She is interested in international law and would like a job that will allow her to travel around the world.
